 Everyday’s A New Day

March 15 - April 8, 2023

The last three years had been defined by a host of overwhelming and debilitating circumstances, leading many to experience a profound lack of joy. For makers and audiences alike, art can function as an escape, even a meditative process or tanscendent experience. However, the current climate led many to question the validity and purpose of making, and the function of fine art in these times.

The works in Everyday’s A New Day intended to bring levity to life and to break through the monotony of everyday stressors, even while reflecting and exploring the everyday. The works of Colin Klimesh and Justin Hodges urge audiences to find joy in common and banal objects. Rebecca Morgan’s works spark curiosity about quotidian life, while the wonders of the natural world are presented through Future Retrieval’s pieces. With the deluge of information we are pummeled with everyday, from pop-up ads to the 24-hour news cycle, Everyday’s A New Day meant to bring reprieve to the audience and give them a chance to feel deeper and find joy on a more personal, even intimate level. In this way, this show asserts only only a relevant function for art in today’s atmosphere, but also a profound purpose for making and experiencing art.

Participating Artists: Future Retrieval, Lindsey Hampton, Justin Hodges, Colin Klimesh, Ben Medansky, and Rebecca Morgan.
