This 2-hour workshop, lead by Daniel Park and Joseph Ahmed, explores the intersections of game design and public site-specific performance. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn basic theories of game design and explore how systems in the physical spaces around us can be co-opted and combined with performance to make art that literally could not exist without an audience. By the end of the workshop participants will each have built a short interactive performance/game piece. Performance experience and a love for games a plus, but not a requirement.

Presented in conjuction with the Cincinnati Fringe Festival performance of You Are The Hero by Daniel Park and Joseph Ahmed. One part Legend of Zelda, one part theatre, You Are the Hero is your chance to save the world from Evil! Fresh off performances in NYC and the Philadelphia Fringe, this adventure hands the controls (and Starburst) to you. You’ll have to be brave, powerful, and wise to bring the story to a victorious end. 

But be careful, because 'Game Over' does exist....

Daniel Park is a theatre and performance artist from Philadelphia who’s work has been performed internationally. His recent pieces explore the middle ground between games and theatre. Works include You Are the Hero: a videogame/theatre hybrid inspired by the Legend of Zelda, The Diamond Eye Collective: a game commissioned for by Temple University in the Samuel S. Paley Library where players became covert operatives attempting to overthrow a clandestine organization and save missing students, and We Need to Talk: Dungeons and Dragons meets improvised theatre meets your last break-up.
