About the Archive of Creative Culture:
Archive of Creative Culture is a participatory project that began in 2013 as an open-source collection of books contributed by leading arts and cultural figures. We invite those creating significant impact in their respective field to gift a book from their personal library that has served as their guide, source of inspiration or represents a turning point in pursuing their creative endeavors. We ask for THE book that has been a point of reference with the pages marked up, dog-eared, annotated wrinkled, crinkled and all. The contributor’s history is as much a part of the project as the actual book. Each book is accompanied by an handwritten a note from the contributor to the readers via an Ex Libris, telling the story of their connection to the book.

In addition, we ask contributors to nominate up to three other creatives who have played a significant role in influencing their work. As a social document, the books and nominations serve as a freely accessible resource that visualizes the creative network and is committed to preserving today’s creative legacy for future generations.

To expand on our short and long term vision, this year, our focus is on building and touring the collection as pop-up exhibitions in various arts-focused spaces, universities and museums. A 1973 Argosy Airstream is currently transporting the collection up and down the East Coast and in February of 2017, will head to the West Coast to be installed at the Museum of Craft and Design in San Francisco. Throughout the process, we will be mapping the tour as well as the creative network build through the nominations. The network will be made available on our new website in February 2017. Here is the current website for reference.

Our long-term vision is to house a majority of the collection in a physical location by 2018, offering a space for research and reference room for creative minds.
