We Lived In The Gaps Between The Stories
Opening: Saturday, June 12, 2021
6-8pm, Wave Pool Gallery
Join us for the opening of Lena Chen's We Lived In The Gaps Between The Stories, a participatory artwork celebrating the labor of abortion workers. Visitors are invited to contribute toward the project by through writing thank you letters to abortion workers and crafting a communal wreath using plants with abortive and contraceptive properties. The wreaths are then gifted to abortion care workers in a ritual of gratitude. For the length of the residency, Wave Pool Gallery will function as a sacred space for this process.
Lena Chen is the Vance Waddell Artist-In-Residence, working in conversation with artworks in the collection of Sara M. & Michelle Vance Waddell Collection. Alongside Chen’s solo show, the gallery will be exhibiting a piece from the collection, Andrea Bowers’ Wall of Letters: Necessary Reminders from the Past for a Future of Choice.
Masks required for unvaccinated and social distancing will be encouraged.
